DCCP Baguio Holds Firearm and School Safety Seminar

Data Center College of the Philippines of Baguio Inc. (DCCP) held a seminar on "Building Safer Communities: Firearm Safety, School Safety, and Emergency Response" at the DCCP Annex Building, Baguio City, attended by Senior High School and college students from September 17 to 19, 2026.

The seminar was conducted in coordination with the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Revitalized Police Sa Barangay, BCPO Station 3, and City Mobile Force Company (CMFC), to provide the students with appropriate knowledge and awareness regarding firearm safety, violence prevention, emergency preparedness, school security protocols, and proper responses during critical incidents including shootings and other armed emergencies.

PCMS Graciano C. Bitaga discussed proper responses during critical incidents and other armed emergencies. He reminded students to prioritize their safety, remain calm, move away from danger when possible, and follow instructions from school authorities and emergency responders.

PMSG Emilia M. Batnag and PMSG Jacquelyn A. Catti also joined the seminar as speakers, emphasizing the importance of school security, emergency preparedness, and responsible actions during dangerous situations.

Students were introduced to the "Stop, Think, Act" response model, which encourages them to control panic, assess the situation, and choose the safest appropriate action. They were also reminded not to confront armed individuals, approach suspicious objects, or return to dangerous areas to retrieve their belongings.

The speakers also emphasized responsible communication during emergency situations. Students were told to report incidents to the proper authorities, avoid spreading unverified information, and refrain from posting or live streaming ongoing emergencies. They were also briefed about the 911 emergency hotline and reminded to use it only in true emergencies.

The activity concluded by reminding students that preparedness, calm decision-making, and cooperation with authorities are important in maintaining a safer school community.
